MESS is a source-available project which documents the hardware for a wide variety of (mostly vintage) video game consoles, computers and calculators through software emulation, as MAME does for arcade games. As a nice side effect to this documentation, MESS allows software and games for these hardware platforms to be run on modern PCs.
The goal of this wiki is to document how to use MESS, the technical architecture of MESS, and the systems emulated by MESS. If you want to help, register a user name and look at the pages already in the Wiki to get an idea how things are currently laid out here.







MESS License Key For PC

MESS (Multi Emulator Super System) is an open source emulator suite with nearly 25 emulators built-in for nearly every kind of computer or console game system of the 1970’s, 1980’s, and 1990’s.
Getting Started with MESS:
The following information about MESS is required to use it:
* A MESS source directory, e.g. ~/MESS-5.1.1
* A web server, if you wish to be able to view the MESS menus
* A web browser
* A copy of the GNU Screen utility
* A Windows computer, to run Windows games on your PC
* MAME for Windows
It is recommended to download MAME for Windows. To do this go to and click the “Download the latest stable version”. MAME is the software that allows you to run an emulator of the hardware used for arcade games on a PC. MESS is a package of MAME components. It is more than likely that you have MAME on your computer already, but that doesn’t hurt to download it. MAME is available for other OS’s, but the MESS guys have included it on the MESS installation disc for Windows.
Once you have downloaded MAME, you need to install it. MAME comes with a dedicated installer. Alternatively you can download it as a zip file and unzip it to a temporary directory, then run the supplied mame-x64-win32.exe installer. To install MAME for other operating systems such as Linux or OS X, consult this link and follow the instructions.
Initializing a MESS Source Directory
You are going to be working in a source directory. This source directory is typically the place you keep your MESS source and MAME source as well. If you have the MESS source directory ready, you can run MESS by simply typing mame into a terminal. If your MESS source directory is not ready yet, you can follow these instructions.

MAME is to MESS what XENIX is to UNIX. MESS was developed from scratch by a small team as a replacement for both MAME and XENIX.
The 4 platforms which MESS runs on are:
* Sega Genesis
* Nintendo Entertainment System (Super Nintendo Entertainment System compatible)
* Atari 2600/5200
* Commodore 64 (C64)
MESS will run games from the above systems as well as other systems which it is capable of emulating. MESS is able to run emulated games from systems such as the C64, the Atari 800, the CEG architecture, the Z80/8080, the MOS Technology 6502, the ZX Spectrum, the Jaguar, the MSX, the Commodore 128 (MCE), the Bally Astrocade, the Game Gear, and many more.
MESS is sometimes referred to as “MESS2009” for MESS software from version 2009 onwards. The code is GPL v3.0. On the homepage, there is a link to the MESS Library of MESS versions since 2009 and a download of MESS2009.
On the homepage of MESS there is also a link to the “Beta Section”. This section contains information about older versions of MESS which were released in the past but are not actively maintained any more.Inhibition of lactoferrin binding to macrophages by acid treatment.
Previous studies have shown that lactoferrin (LF) binds to surface carbohydrate-recognizing receptors (CRs) on macrophages. Acidic pH inhibits binding of LF to CRs; we have now studied whether this effect can be explained by loss of the anionic charge of the CR carbohydrate ligand. In this study, the effect of various concentrations of HCl (0.01-0.5 M) on the capacity of CR-1 to bind LF and on CR-2 binding was studied, as was the effect of various concentrations of CH3COOH (0-500 mM) on LF binding to CR-1. Further, the capacity of different acidic buffers to inhibit LF binding was also studied. We found that in all of the above studies, inhibition was not caused by loss of the anionic charge of the CR carbohydrate ligand. These studies demonstrate that the acidic pH dependent effect on LF binding to CRs

MESS Free [Mac/Win]

MESS is the MESSing Around Emulator System. It was written and continues to be maintained by Dave Mandelin. It is a C++ application written in Qt 4.7.3 which lives in a fork of the MAME project (called mametests) originally created by Dave Mandelin. MESS will run on any PC or Linux box with OpenGL running and Qt4 installed. Currently, MESS can emulate approximately 600 consumer, arcade, and space games.
MAME Description:
MAME is a collection of C and Assembly routines which are used to implement various PC compatibles, most notably games (A.I.) and arcade games. MAME also includes its own emulation of the Amiga 1000 and Amiga 2000. The Amiga 1000 and 2000 series of computers is mostly emulation.
Use MESS and MAME together:
MAME can run on any PC. This means that MAME can run on modern PCs running windows or Linux. MESS is able to run MAME.
MESS software:
MESS itself has no real GUI. However, MESS is able to list, start, stop and pause MAME applications with the provided SDL command line interface (CLI). MESS also has a curses-based GUI tool to control and view the emulation.
MESS hardware:
MESS controls and emulates hardware using a custom FPGA design, including hardware OPL3 sound generation and OPL3 audio integration. The design is based upon Dave Mandelin’s FPGA design for the Sega Genesis. MESS also uses Arduino as its platform for input, including buttons, potentiometers, and joystick ports. MESS also uses MIDI to connect to MIDI hardware like synthesizers or drum machines. Finally, MESS can include hardware Tandy-8032 ADCs and a driver for the Tandy-8032 line card for interfacing with a standard Hlinka 16-bit (Microdrive) floppy drive.
MESS hardware is based upon a modified version of the ADM-3B and ADM-5B chipsets (from Micron. The ADM-3B and ADM-5B are a series of flash-based read-only-memory (ROM) chips that were used in ColecoVision, Telesynthesizer, Sinclair ZX Spectrum and various other systems. The ADM-3B and ADM-5B are functionally compatible with their Micron counterparts and have been made accessible to the hobby

What’s New In?

The acronym MESS stands for Multiple EMulator SuperSystem. Originally from 1989, and a few years later renamed to MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator), it is the basis of emulation on classic arcade games on ordinary personal computers.
MESS is a software emulator of computer and video game systems. MESS is able to emulate the hardware of a wide range of home video game systems and calculators. This includes the Nintendo Entertainment System, Famicom, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Atari 2600, Atari 7800, ZX Spectrum, Vectrex, TI-99/4A, Apple II, Apple II+, various model computers and calculators, and many more. Additional systems will be added if the need arises.
Most MESS’s features are implemented using standard software techniques, the largest change since the original design was the addition of hardware accelerated graphics. MESS is now able to emulate both a variety of graphics cards and OCS AGP cards, with a different graphics API for each type. In addition to other hardware specific features, MESS provides access to additional hardware, which is typically implemented using a software driver.
These additional features, as well as system specific video techniques, can be accessed from any program by calling “Settings”, or via “CTRL-T” to access the main menu. The hardware acceleration features are implemented in “MESS”.
MESS runs on any x86 system with a supported video card. MESS may be run natively on Windows, a Linux distribution, or other x86 operating systems.
The MESS project was started in 1989 by Jon” szybist, who gave it the name of MESS at that time.

MESS configuration:
MESS configuration is performed by opening MESS and clicking on Settings on the main menu. In MESS, there are a number of settings, which affect the MESS GUI. To edit settings, click on Settings. Alternatively, the settings can be edited in the file Settings.ini, which is created on Windows if it is not present (i.e., new user). On Linux you can create the Settings.ini file by opening it in vi editor and editing to your liking.
