micWorld is an application in which 3D environments are used to organize sounds and their attributes. MicWorld includes 8 sound objects in the world that can be moved around by keyboard commands, joystick or by the mouse.These sound objects are silent until the microphone, also controlled by the user, comes near to them. The small microphone picks up the sounds from the rotating objects. The distance between the mic and the objects defines the volume. If you prefer, the vertical location of an object in the world can define the pitch of that object’s sound. When you have set up meaningful constellation(s) of objects, the mic can be set into an orbit around either an anchor or a chosen sound object, thus creating a recurring sequence of sounds.

● Set your own constellation of sounds by using the XYZ-coordinates of the objects. You can specify their precise position in 3D space using x, y and z coordinates. ● They can be moved around using the mouse and the keyboard. This action is only meant for changing the viewpoint. ● You can easily erase objects if you want to. Simply select one by clicking on it and then press the delete key. ● There is no upper limit for the number of objects and the orbits, although very large orbits may require more computing power. ● Whether the object is placed in an orbit or not, the orbit is played the same way. The application is a Java-based, multiplatform, graphically rich, sound-manipulation application designed for entertaining others. It includes an event-driven engine, where events are events fired by the mic, or the objects, which include an adjustable localization of sound. Events include three possible outcomes: 1- the mic is fired, 2- the object is fired, 3- the object is hit by the mic In case the mic and object are the same, a double event fired. MicWorld uses the webcam as an image source and requires no plug-ins on your computer. You will, however, need a modern web browser (IE, Firefox, Safari). The setup is very simple, and the first few actions are very intuitive, as you can see in the screenshots. At the bottom of the MicWorld window are two buttons: “Play and “Stop”. If you click on the play button, MicWorld will send you some sounds by email. These sounds can be the sounds you hear from the objects on the screen or other sounds you choose. The colors that you choose, can be used to set the pitch (or voice) of the sound. When you have created the sounds you like, you are ready to start mixing them. MicWorld makes it easy: it saves the created sessions and you can listen to your mix at any time. Before starting the creation of a new session, you can add one or more objects to the session. The number of sound objects that you have created can be used for shortcuts and define the type of sounds that you create.
